Phil Reconnects with His RAF Past with Churchfields Care Home
Phil, a lovely resident at Churchfields Care Home, had proudly served in the Royal Air Force, flying planes and helicopters. He often talks about his time in the RAF, and it’s clear to everyone that those years still mean a great deal to him.
With that in mind, our team arranged a visit back to RAF Brize Norton. We spoke to Phil’s wife, Elizabeth, who was so touched by the idea that she became emotional when she heard what we had planned.

From the moment Phil arrived at the RAF base, he was completely absorbed in the experience. The team at the RAF Brize Norton Heritage Centre gave him the warmest welcome and a private tour, allowing him to revisit familiar places and share memories from his time in the service.
The day was filled with amazing stories from Phil’s military tours, lots of laughter and the joy of seeing Phil enjoy every moment. It was a special day for everyone who shared it with him.

Reflecting on the visit, Phil said:
“This has brought back many wonderful memories. Thank you to everyone.”
At Churchfields Care Home, our Magic Moments programme is about helping residents reconnect with the people, places and memories that make up their life story. It was a privilege to see Phil return to a place that meant so much to him and to watch those memories come flooding back.

Sharon Rhodes, Home Manager at Churchfields Care Home, said:
“Phil is a wonderful man and it was a privilege to be part of his special day.”
We’d like to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone at the RAF Brize Norton Heritage Centre for making Phil feel so welcome. We’d also like to thank Andy, who spent the day with Phil, sharing his knowledge and making the visit one he’ll never forget.
